Deborah Carnes Lutz, a native of Charlotte, is the founder and Music Director of Nova Voce. In addition, she is a teacher currently developing a choral program at Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw and is also Music Director at Mint-Hill Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Lutz is a cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in piano performance. Following her passion she earned a Master of Music Education degree in choral music from Winthrop University. Mrs. Lutz has studied conducting with masters such as Eric Ericson, Robert Page, and Robert Shaw. She credits local legendary piano teacher, Dzidra Reimanis, for instilling such a great love for music. She has also been inspired by Dr. Robert Edgerton, retired, Winthrop University, Dr. Richard Cox, retired, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Dr. Daniel Bara, East Carolina University. From 1993 until 2007, Mrs. Lutz was Director of Choral Arts at Piedmont High School in Monroe, North Carolina, building the program from ground up. Choirs under her direction have performed at Spoleto, Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, Riverside Church, New York City, Duke Chapel, various venues in Switzerland, Germany and England, for the NC MEA-MENC, and for state and divisional conferences of the American Choral Directors Association. Mrs. Lutz is Repertoire and Standards Chair for Women's Choirs, Southern division of ACDA. Mrs. Lutz served as assistant director for the Charlotte Choir Boys and The Charlotte Choral Society Singing Christmas Tree. In addition she has been a clinician for churches and schools in North and South Carolina, served as adjudicator, and has guest-conducted honor choruses and hymn festivals.
